Wally Larson, one of our dearly beloved neighbors, recently passed away; his obituary (https://www.legacy.com/obituaries/seattletimes/obituary.aspx?pid=173894628) appeared in January’s Seattle Times. Wally is survived by his wife Bobbie, who still lives in the neighborhood, his daughters Karen and Heidi, and his much-loved grandson Louis. The WHCCA would like to pay tribute to his long-term contribution to our community. Wally served on the Board for a number of years and also held the office of president. Wally developed the block watch program, dividing the approximately 525 homes in our community into blocks of approximately 25 residences for block watch groups, and he set up the disaster plan for the WHCCA. He relentlessly pursued identifying block watch captains to help pull the neighborhoods together to watch out for each other, and to band together to take care of each other in case of a natural disaster. The WHCCA disaster plan was recognized by the City of Bellevue as being an excellent plan and the first such neighborhood plan in the City. Wally found out about courses in disaster preparedness offered free by the City, which many of us attended. He left a legacy of belief in the power of, and commitment to, our community association. Please consider honoring Wally’s memory by volunteering to serve on the WHCCA Board or by participating in other WHCCA activities.
